This 8-day Lake District photography tour takes you through England's finest landscapes, from the calm tarns and reflections of Ullswater to the dramatic peaks of Helvellyn, Scafell Pike, and the Langdale Pikes. The Lake District sits in Cumbria, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017, and offers endless photographic opportunities across the fells, the wooded valleys of Borrowdale and Rydal, and the open water of Derwentwater and Buttermere.

Daily Itinerary
Your 8-Day Lake District Photography Itinerary
Itineraries are flexible. We always chase the best light and conditions.
The adventure begins! You and your fellow travellers will be collected by your photo guides from Euston Tower in central London at 9am. We'll head north through the scenic English countryside, stopping at photogenic locations along the way to capture images and acclimatize. As you travel, you'll witness the scenery changing before your very eyes, as we pass through the stone-built villages of the Pennines. We'll arrive at our Lake District accommodation in Keswick by late afternoon, giving you time to settle in and prepare your equipment for the week ahead.
On day two, you'll rise early for a sunrise session capturing the dramatic views of Lake Ullswater from Glenridding. The misty morning light creates perfect conditions for reflections and moody landscape shots. Thereafter, there will be two options: you'll either make your way to Hallin Fell, on the southern edge of Ullswater, for elevated perspectives or explore the shoreline for intimate details. You'll spend the rest of the afternoon at the attractive Aira Force waterfall, which makes for a wonderful composition, particularly in soft afternoon light. Return to Keswick for dinner and an evening debrief.
After breakfast on the third day, you'll head out for a sunrise shoot at Crow Park, soaking in the magnificent views of Derwent Water with the Catbells ridge rising dramatically behind. Later on, you'll make your way to the still waters of the Isthmus Bay, where an old concrete jetty makes for a wonderful compositional element. The rest of the day will be spent exploring the surrounds. Possible locations for a sunset session include Ashness Bridge or Surprise View. You'll have time to process images and relax in the evening.
Day four sees us continuing the journey to Lake Buttermere, which sits alongside a number of dairy pastures and woodland. After sunrise, we'll make our way to a local viewpoint where you'll be able to capture the wonderful reflections and the dramatic peaks of High Stile and High Crag beyond. The afternoon brings opportunities to explore alternative compositions around the lake, including the famous lone tree and various shoreline perspectives. This is one of the most photogenic lakes in the Lake District, offering endless compositional possibilities.
On day five, we'll rise early to catch the misty sunrise at River Brathay by Elterwater. The atmospheric conditions in this valley often produce magical light and moody compositions. The afternoon will be spent immersing ourselves in the natural beauty of the Great Langdale Valley, exploring locations such as the Dungeon Ghyll Force waterfall and various valley viewpoints. This is excellent territory for wide-angle landscape work and intimate nature photography.
We've added an extra day compared to previous years running our Lake District Landscape Photography Workshop to give us maximum flexibility. This gives us even more opportunity to shoot to the conditions, driving to another amazing location of the Lake District or revisiting a previous location where conditions are optimal. Your guide makes the call each morning based on the weather forecast, the light on the fells, and your specific photographic interests.
Day seven begins with an early sunrise session before we make our way to the incredible Lowther Castle, a romantic ruins set within beautiful grounds. The architectural elements combined with the surrounding landscape provide wonderful compositional opportunities. Alternatively, if conditions favour it, we may explore Castlerigg Stone Circle or another iconic Lake District location. The afternoon provides time for final captures and to reflect on the week's photographic journey.
This will be the final day of the tour. In the morning, you'll head out for a sunrise session at Tewit Tarn or Catbells on the Borrowdale fells, capturing one last set of Lake District images. Thereafter, you'll return to pick up your belongings and to check out of your accommodation, before we begin our journey back to London. We expect to return to central London between 6-7pm on our final day, dropping you at Euston Tower.

Lake District Photography Workshop FAQs
This tour is rated as Moderate fitness. It involves walking of 30-60 minutes along paths and trails with occasional steep steps. Most locations are accessible by vehicle, though some require short walks to reach optimal photo positions. No climbing experience is necessary, but reasonable fitness and comfortable hiking boots are essential.
We recommend bringing a wide-angle and mid-range lens if you have them, along with a sturdy tripod. Kase Wolverine filter kits are available to borrow, and we carry backup cameras, lenses and tripods just in case. A full equipment list and recommended kit guide is sent after booking.
Yes! Full cottage accommodation is included. You'll stay at Briarwood, a comfortable cottage in Keswick with en-suite bathrooms. The cottage is self-catering, so you'll prepare your own meals, though there are excellent restaurants and shops nearby. All accommodation is arranged. You just need to arrive!
We keep groups small, maximum 5 participants. This ensures you get personal attention from your guide, can move quickly between locations, and won't have crowds in your photos. It's an intimate learning experience with plenty of one-on-one guidance.
Meals are not included in the tour price. The cottage is self-catering, so you'll prepare your own breakfasts and pack lunches. Keswick has numerous restaurants, cafes, and supermarkets for convenience. This actually gives you flexibility to explore local cuisine and dining preferences.
The Lake District weather is unpredictable, which actually makes for incredible photography! Bad weather often produces dramatic skies and moody lighting. We'll adapt our schedule based on conditions. If it's raining at one location, we'll move to a sheltered spot or change our approach. Rain gear is essential packing.
We aim to be back at the London meeting point by around 7:00pm on the final day, after a sunrise shoot, checkout, and the drive back. It's a long drive with real potential for traffic delays, so if you're flying home internationally, we strongly recommend booking your flight for the following day rather than the same evening.
